SPI Kite Fest 1

This weekend, South Padre soars into February with its annual kite festival, while Bandera and Galveston get a head start on Mardi Gras celebrations. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

SPI Kitefest

South Padre Island: Feb. 1-3 
On Thursday, enjoy indoor kite performances at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Then enjoy two full days of kite-flying at the flats. 

11th Street Mardi Gras Celebration

Bandera: Feb. 1-3
Enjoy live Cajun and country music, Cajun food, a gumbo cookoff, a costume contest, and a canine costume contest at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar. On Saturday, Main Street will be filled with floats, horses, cowboys, feathers, masks, and plenty of beads for the cowboy town's annual Mardi Gras parade.

San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo

San Angelo: Feb. 2-18
The San Angelo Rodeo holds 11 PRCA-sanctioned rodeo performances, with bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. 

Spring Blossoms Quilt Show

Brenham: Feb. 2-3
Presented by Friendship Quilt Guild, the event hosts quilting vendors from across the state.

MardiGras Galveston

Galveston: Feb. 2-13 
The third largest Mardi Gras in the country kicks off this weekend with parades, concerts, masked balls, balcony parties, and more. 

Desert Discovery (Guided Hike)

Pine Springs: Feb. 3
Guadalupe Mountains National Park hosts this guided hike—McKittrick Canyon Nature Trail's one-mile loop is a great beginner hike and suitable for families with small children to learn about plant and animal adaptations. 

Chicken Coops for Backyard Egg Production

Corpus Christi: Feb. 3
At the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, learn the egg-cellence of cooking fresh eggs every day, local regulations, resources, techniques, and not-so-normal chicken coop construction to make poultry feel at home in your backyard. 

Day the Music Died

Lubbock: Feb. 3
Remembering February 3 as the date of the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper), and pilot Roger Peterson. Patrons are invited to the Buddy Holly Center to celebrate the life and legacy of Buddy Holly. Free museum admission and trolley tours will be given. 

Corks and Forks

Lufkin: Feb. 3
At this annual downtown tasting event, Lufkin's finest chefs and caterers showcase their tastiest appetizers and desserts paired with great wine, Champagne, and beer. 

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo

Fort Worth: Through Feb. 3
A fun-filled extravaganza rich in Western tradition, this legendary rodeo is the place to be as it heads into its final weekend. Enjoy exciting rodeo action, livestock, horse shows, and a number of other experiences including Interactive, kid-friendly activities.
