April 2014’s wildflower feature—“Oooh … Aaah”—mentions our longtime friends at The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Here are more details on our annual wildflower exhibit and other spring happenings at the Center.
Texas Highways and The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center are teaming up again for an annual wildflower photo exhibit. 40 Years of Oohs and Aahs—a retrospective of Texas Highways’ springtime images over the decades—runs from April 19 through May 25 in the Center’s McDermott Learning Center. The inspiring selection includes the lively scenes of relative newcomers like Theresa DiMenno and the classic bluebonnet-blanketed landscapes of longtime (and long-ago) contributors like the late Jack Lewis, whose artistry launched TH into the forefront of landscape photography in the 1970s and helped define the magazine’s look for decades.
Mark your calendar for other spring fetes during the Center’s Wildflower Days (March 10-May 31): the Artists & Artisans Festival March 15-16 (includes artist appearances); the Spring Plant Sale and Gardening Festival April 12-13; the grand opening of the Luci and Ian Family Garden on May 4; and Gardens on Tour May 10 (tours of the Center’s displays and five private native-plant gardens).
