You can obtain more Hilltop recipes by purchasing Southern Herb Growing by Madalene Hill and Gwen Barclay with Jean Hardy, published by Shearer Publishing. 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1 c. flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 1/2 c. diced apples 1/2 c. pecans or walnuts 2 T. hot water Combine sugar and butter, add the egg, then the dry ingredients. Add apples and nuts, and stir in the hot water. Bake in a 9-inch pie pan 40 minutes at 325 degrees. Serve warm with: Rum Sauce Boil 1/2 c. brown sugar and 1/2 c. cream for one minute, then add 1/4 c. rum.
