In its 17th year, Artscape is a juried fine art and fine craft show and sale with nearly 100 juried artists who display their unique and one-of-a-kind creations throughout the garden. Artscape features some new artists and a variety of mediums including metal, 2D and 3D mixed media, painting, ceramics, fiber, glass, drawing/pastel, photography, sculpture, wood, and jewelry. Entry is included with admission to the garden.

Festival of Joy

The festival kicks off with a parade and culminates with a live headline stage performance. Presented by acclaimed East Dallas restaurant Kalachandji’s, Festival of Joy brings together thousands of families, young adults, and dignitaries for a fun-filled day of bright colors, beautiful flowers, and a free vegetarian feast, along with riveting music, dance, and interactive holistic living and cultural exhibits. A variety of ethnic vegetarian foods are also available for purchase. New this year is an evening stage performance by popular Indian artist Gaura Vani.

Revive the Culture HBCU Power Camp

Hosted by The Texas Supremacy of Music and Arts Conservatory (TSMAC), Revive the Culture HBCU Power Camp is a dynamic two-day marching band camp specifically designed for students in grades 6-12. This unique program is led by band and dance directors from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and provides comprehensive instruction in the HBCU show-style perspective of marching, band dance, majorettes, color guard, and cheerleading. The camp is completely free for participants, who are required to have at least one year of experience in their respective performing arts disciplines. The camp aims to serve over 1,500 students from 18 Dallas schools, focusing on those who are socio-economically disadvantaged. The first day of the camp is dedicated to practice, team building, and rehearsal of musical content provided to the students prior to the event. On the second day, the showcase begins, allowing small groups of students to demonstrate their learning to a large audience, including parents, guardians, district and school board representatives, and local elected officials. This event not only highlights the importance of performing arts among urban communities, but also provides a platform for students to showcase their talents and hard work.

“Fannie: The Music and Life of Fannie Lou Hamer”

Dallas Theater Center’s Brierley Resident Acting Company member, Liz Mikel, returns to Dallas after a year performing on Broadway to play the legendary 1960s Civil Rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer in this regional premiere. The production celebrates the woman whose courage, humor, and grit reminds us that we all have a stake in our country. Fannie’s is a story of justice that will not be denied.

The fourth annual Black Heritage Celebration places the spotlight on the unique talents, art, and businesses of the local Black community. These include designers, entertainers, artists, and chefs. There is a vendor exhibit with Black-owned businesses selling their items, plus entertainment. This event is open to the public and is included in the general admission to the Dallas Arboretum.

Mindi Abair and Greg Karukas in Concert

Join in for a night of jazz with Mindi Abair and Gregg Karukas. Abair is a saxophonist, vocalist, author, and National Trustee for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the organization that puts on the Grammy Awards show. Karukas is a smooth jazz pianist who co-founded the Rippingtons in 1985.
