Julia Rodriguez has sacrificed everything for her family, comprised of her alcoholic father, her miserable mother, her absentee older sister, and her lively little sister. When "the one that got away" re-enters her life and asks her to run away with him to California, she begins to question if she's made a mistake. Dealing with themes of familial obligation and identity within the Hispanic community, "Curse of the Puerto Ricans" follows one family's dysfunctional Christmas celebration.

Autumn at the Arboretum

The 17th annual Autumn at the Arboretum festival, presented by Reliant, features 90,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash, hailing from the Pumpkin Capital of Texas, Floydada, throughout the garden. This year’s theme, "A Fall Fairy Tale," features the return of Cinderella’s Carriage, along with themed pumpkin houses that make up the acclaimed Pumpkin Village, and of course, a maze for younger visitors. Other gourd-eous displays reimagine classic tales of "Jack and The Beanstalk," "The Three Little Pigs," "The Sword in the Stone," and "One Thousand and One Nights."

Masterpiece in Residence: Velazquez’s "King Philip IV of Spain"

Recently the Meadows Museum launched an exciting new loan program featuring some of the world’s most significant holdings of Spanish art within American collections, offering audiences the opportunity to view these masterpieces within the context of Meadows’s permanent collection. The second in the series, Diego Velazquez’s "King Philip IV of Spain," comes in a rare departure from its home at The Frick Collection in New York.

"Picturing Holy Women in the Spanish Empire, 1620-1800"

This exhibition examines prints and drawings from the Bridwell and DeGolyer Libraries at SMU, as well as from the Meadows’s own collection, that visualize female biblical figures, saints, and monastics. The show contextualizes these works against a historical backdrop in which the church and Spanish monarchy sought to protect social order by regulating women’s mobility, promoting their enclosure, and mandating their separation from the outside world.

"Dalí/Vermeer: A Dialogue"

The Meadows Museum brings together Salvador Dalí’s "The Image Disappears" with Johannes Vermeer’s "Woman Reading a Letter" in this exhibition. The side-by-side presentation of these two related paintings results in a closer understanding of the correlations between Dalí and Vermeer.

North Texas EggFest

Sunnyland Outdoor Living, 7879 Spring Valley Road at Coit

The sixth annual North Texas EggFest features cooking demonstrations, delicious samples, live music, deals on Big Green Egg charcoal grills, and other festivities. Everyone is welcome to show off their cooking skills with cooking teams including amateurs, experienced restaurant staff, first-timers, and local chefs. Proceeds benefit the Texas Restaurant Foundation.

Holiday at the Arboretum

Numerous spectacular elements are a part of Holiday at the Arboretum. The Christmas Village has dozens of charming shops fashioned after a European Christmas village. There's also the 50-foot-tall Dazzling Musical Tree animated with more than 42,000 lights and merry holiday tunes, the 12 Days of Christmas gazebos that represent each of the 12 days of Christmas, and the stunningly decorated historic DeGolyer house.
