Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools Open House Schedule

The Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools are former students of the closed rural schools and members of the community who are interested in working to protect and preserve the traditions of the schools, the community clubs, and the history of Gillespie County for future generations. They welcome visitors during their open houses to learn more about the German history of the one-room schools in and around Fredericksburg.
Enchanted Rock Star Party
April 5
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, 18 miles north on Ranch Road 965
Spend an evening stargazing at Enchanted Rock. Telescopes are set up at this come-and-go event along with information on what makes the park unique as a Gold-Tier Certified Dark Sky Park. No registration is needed, but a day pass or overnight camping permit is required to attend this event.
Die Kunstler von Fredericksburg Spring Fling Art Show

Die Künstler von Fredericksburg (the artists of Fredericksburg), or DK for short, is an all-volunteer member artist group founded in 1993, its name honoring the city’s German heritage. More than 300 framed paintings along with many more unframed artworks are on display at this annual exhibition and sale of original fine art by member artists.
Eclipse of the Flowers

Wildseed Farms, 100 Legacy Drive
Wildseed Farms hosts an all-day eclipse viewing party, where admission includes entry to the farm, eclipse viewing glasses, two drink tickets, one meal ticket, and access to the famous field of poppies. Come relax and enjoy the total eclipse and a full day of bands featuring The Ray Colao Band, Dan West, and The Frumpkins. Space is limited to ensure ample space for viewing.
Texas Fandango

Fredericksburg VFD Annual Spring Fish Fry

Crawfish Festival

At this festival on Memorial Day Weekend, indulge on great Cajun food, live music, shopping, and a kids’ carnival. This event is sponsored by the Fredericksburg Jaycees.
Hill Country Film Festival

A celebration of independent film, the Hill Country Film Festival (HCFF) screens over 85 independent films (short and feature length) from Texas and around the world. In addition to screenings, HCFF also hosts revealing Q&As, captivating filmmaker panel discussions, and nightly festival parties that give attendees a chance to rub elbows with filmmakers. Screenings take place at Hoffman Haus and the National Museum of the Pacific War Ballroom with social events happening at various local bars and restaurants.
Car Fest

Sponsored by the Fredericksburg Rotary Club, Car Fest is a Hill Country tradition now in its 19th year. The event offers food trucks and vendors and attracts car enthusiasts, families, and weekend shoppers to downtown Fredericksburg and the historic Marktplatz on Main Street.
Craft Beer Festival

Save the date for the third annual fundraising festival designed to bring Texas craft beer breweries to town. Admission includes eight tickets, which can be used for beer or beer samples, drinks, food, and merchandise. Music, food vendors, and wine are part of the fun. The Suds and Tastes tent includes chef pairings and cornhole.
Fourth of July Parade

Originally started in 1991 by a group of community-minded friends, this small-town patriotic parade has grown over the years to be one that is loved by many. The parade begins promptly at 10 a.m. and heads east on Main Street to the National Museum of the Pacific War. It then makes a U-turn and goes west on Main all the way to Bowie Street. Bring your lawn chairs for a great seat or use the tailgate of your pickup to enjoy. There is a free patriotic program following the parade at Martkplatz.
Fourth of July Fireworks

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, 432 Lady Bird Drive
The city of Fredericksburg hosts a fireworks show to celebrate our country’s independence. Multiple viewing areas are available inside the park and at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for seating.

Pari-Mutuel Horse Racing

Historic Gillespie County Jail Tours

Historic Gillespie County Jail, 117 W. San Antonio St.
Tour this two-story stone structure that served as the fourth jail for Gillespie County, organized in 1848 and constructed in 1885. The ground floor housed a holding area and living quarters for the jailer. The second floor had two steel-clad cells located against the east wall and maximum security cells in the center and at the back. The building was used as a county jail until 1939.

The oldest continuous county fair in Texas marks its 136th year. Enjoy four big days filled with fun events, including livestock shows and judging, agricultural and household exhibits, arts and crafts, live music and dancing, and live pari-mutuel horse racing.
Gillespie County Fair Parade

Main Street, 100 Block of West Main Street
One of the Texas Hill Country’s biggest parades has more than 200 units, marches down Main Street, and kicks off the annual Gillespie County Fair. The parade starts behind the courthouse and travels east to South Washington Street, then turns and goes west on Main Street to Edison Street. Bring chairs and arrive early.
