With one in five people experiencing mental illness at any given time, NAMIWalks Central Texas expects to attract hundreds of residents from across the six-county region to celebrate mental health recovery, to let community members know they are not alone, and to honor the memory of loved ones lost to suicide. There is no registration fee, but fundraising is encouraged. Participants raising at least $100 receive an event T-shirt. All funds raised stay local, supporting NAMI Central Texas’ free mental health programs, resources, and services.

The Gruene Music and Wine Festival began as a one-day event in 1987 with the purpose of promoting Texas and Americana music in a fun and relaxed setting while raising funds for the United Way of Comal County. Tasting tickets for craft beer and wine are available for purchase, and fun includes a silent auction and prize giveaways.

Austin-based independent theater company The Filigree Theatre opens its fifth-anniversary season, titled “The Woman in the Story,” with a fall production of “Antigone,” written by Sophocles and adapted by David Rush. Shows are at 8 p.m., with a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee. “Antigone” is a classic Greek tragedy that follows the aftermath of a civil war between Antigone’s two brothers. Rush’s vibrant adaptation follows brave Antigone as she faces an impossible choice and the consequences of her decision. The ground floor housed a holding area and living quarters for the jailer.
