Southwest 100 Endurance Run

Nestled in the historic Davis Mountains, this race starts on the legendary San Antonio-El Paso Road in the heart of Fort Davis National Historic Site. This remote outpost in the 1800s was set up by the U.S. Army as a refuge for travelers making the 600-mile journey by horse or wagon train through hostile Indian country. It was also home to the famous Buffalo Soldiers. From Fort Davis, racers climb through rocky single track further into the Davis Mountains as they enter Davis Mountains State Park. As vast panoramas open up, racers take in the thin mountain air at over a mile high. For those racers that go into the night, gaze at the same wide-open sky studied at the nearby McDonald Observatory.
