"Is it Real? Staging Nature"
Theater designers often manipulate building materials to reimagine stages as dense forests, winter wonderlands, swirling oceans, or surreal landscapes. Costume designers stretch their imaginations to transform a performer into a tree creature, a flying owl, a supernatural fairy, or an earthly element. The new Tobin Collection of Theatre Arts exhibition, "Is It Real? Staging Nature," explores the magic and the technicality of recreating the beauty of nature for performance. The exhibition presents artworks from The Tobin Collection of Theatre Arts that depict nature in opera, ballet, and musical theatre. In addition, an expansive tree trunk set-piece anchors the exhibition, giving guests the impression of standing center stage.
