A note regarding COVID-19
The ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot, one of Austin’s most beloved Thanksgiving traditions, started in 1991 with just a handful of volunteers and 600 participants. Today it has grown to be the largest 5-mile run in Texas, with more than 700 volunteers and over 20,000 participants from all over the United States and beyond. Last year during the Covid shutdown, nearly 7,000 participated in our first-ever virtual event. Not only is it a great way for families to have fun together on Thanksgiving, but it’s also an event that you can really feel good about being a part of—100% of all proceeds go directly to Caritas of Austin, a nonprofit that works to prevent and end homelessness in the Austin community. To date, the Turkey Trot has raised more than $4.2 million for Caritas. For this 31st anniversary event, the plan is for an in-person and virtual event, with specific details and safety protocols approved by Austin Public Health to be announced as the date gets closer.
