Battleship Texas to be Moved to a New Location for Repairs and Visitors

The Houston Chronicle reports that Battleship Texas will move from its home on the Houston Ship Channel near La Porte as part of a plan to preserve the historic ship and draw more visitors. While still awaiting the governor’s signature, recent legislation calls for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to become the ship’s caretaker and for the ship to be repaired.

San Jacinto Day Ceremony Cancelled for First Time in 80 Years

Organizers of the annual Official Observance of San Jacinto Day at San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte have cancelled this year’s event because of ongoing cleanup and closures related to the March 17 chemical fire at Intercontinental Terminals Co.
