“Desert Bloom”

Laura Rathe Fine Art presents this exhibition featuring the works of renowned Southern-based artists Caprice Pierucci, Lynn Sanders, and Sydney Yeager. “Desert Bloom” serves as a testament to the talent and ingenuity of the three accomplished artists, each of whom brings their own distinctive style and perspective to the forefront. From Pierucci’s intricately carved wood sculptures to Sanders’ layered geometric forms and Yeager’s dynamic abstract oil paintings, the works featured in this exhibition pay homage to a desert landscape after the first rain. There is an opening reception the evening of May 9 at the River Oaks District gallery.
“Mayerling”

Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s psychologically thrilling “Mayerling” is an epic triumph in classic storytelling. The three-act ballet tells the dark tale of Crown Prince Rudolf, the sole heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1880s. The work weaves a story of scandal and political intrigue through an unhappy marriage, sensuous dalliances, and morbid obsessions all leading to the tragic murder-suicide of the prince and his young mistress, Baroness Mary Vetsera.
The Houston Ballet: “Four Seasons”

The Houston Ballet’s 2023-24 season, which celebrates Stanton Welch AM’s 20-year tenure as artistic director of the ballet company, comes to a close with “Four Seasons,” featuring works from four choreographers including Welch and Dwight Rhoden, founding artistic director and resident choreographer of Complexions Contemporary Ballet.

Debuting in 1975, the Houston Shakespeare Festival, a collaboration between the city and the University of Houston’s School of Theatre, offers free public performances of the Bard’s works each summer at Hermann Park’s Miller Outdoor Theatre. There is seating on the hill and in the covered audience area.
