family-poses-dogtrot-house

Lev Dolby Heath and his family in the fall of 1905. This photo was taken in northern Rains County. Photo courtesy of Kyle Terry.

Traces of Texas reader Kyle Terry submitted this fascinating photo of the L.D. Heath family in 1905. The family lived a few miles north of Emory, which is a small town in Rains County, about 65 miles east of Dallas. The photo reveals so much about the way this family lived. I love the traditional “dogtrot” design of the house.
