Dalhart, named for its location on the Dallam and Hartley county line, originated as a railroad town and developed as a shipping center for area ranches, including the renowned XIT Ranch. The XIT Museum chronicles the region and its history, ranging from its namesake ranch to area wildlife.

“Dalhart is a great stopping point with friendly people, great restaurants, and incredible sunrises and sunsets.”
 — RODNEY WHITE, Dalhart

The town’s biggest tourist draw is the annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion every August, a celebration of the ranch that was once the world’s largest under fence. While in town, check out the restored 1920s La Rita Performing Arts Theatre.
