This film festival features screenings of “Spider-man Into the Spider-Verse,” “Flash Gordon,” “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” and “Mad Max.” There will also be talks, shorts, and Khan-tests. 

D’Town Barbecue Cookoff

Dumas: July 19-20

This annual cookoff features teams from across the Texas Panhandle and beyond. Averaging 35-40 teams, this cookoff is recognized by the state of Texas and the International Barbeque Cookers Association and has a variety of meats including brisket, ribs, pork shoulder/butt, and chicken. 

Sahawe Summer Ceremonials

Uvalde: July 19, 20, 26, 27

The Sahawe Dancers are a unique performing group from Uvalde, Texas. These ceremonials feature a 90-minute performance of dances from the Plains and Pueblo tribes and tribes from Mexico. This is where visitors can see the Sahawes at their best.

Corvette Invasion

Bastrop: July 19-21

The largest Corvette car show in Texas comes to Bastrop. Check out hundreds of Corvettes before they caravan out on Sunday to the Circuit of the Americas Race Track—the only F1 track in America. The show also features car show awards, and auto, food, and lifestyle vendors, as well as other special events.

New Braunfels: July 19-21

Sul Ross Weekend

Alpine: July 19-21

The 43rd annual long weekend of events celebrates Sul Ross State University and supports its rodeo program. Activities include a dance with live music, roping events, sport clay shooting, and poker and golf tournaments.

“Salado Legends”

Salado: July 20, 27; Aug. 3

Central Texas’ favorite outdoor musical drama depicts life in Texas in the 1850s. Written by Salado resident Jackie Mills, the play was inducted into the Library of Congress in 2000 as a Local Legacy for depicting historical Texas.

RGV Mango Fest

This is a celebration of all things mango. See the vast kinds of mangos and other exotic fruit that can grow in South Texas and taste amazing and rare mango varieties. Santa Ana Ball

This is a re-enactment of a ball held in Brazoria, Texas in 1832 after the Battle of Velasco. The evening includes a gourmet fajita and enchilada dinner, silent and live auction, and dancing. It is a costume ball in the era of the Republic of Texas. There is a costume contest for Best Couple and party favors for all.

Killis Melton’s Ice Cream Crank-Off 

Mckinney: July 21

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day by tasting freshly made ice creams created by home cooks competing for awards at this 24th annual ice cream festival. The Crank-Off, which has been featured on Food Network, includes kids activities, music, and delicious ice cream samplings for $1 each.
