No2140B HogLocated in Van Zandt County between Tyler and Dallas, the hamlet of Ben Wheeler has come to life in the past six years as a quaint cluster of artists, craftsmen, and two eateries that also host live music.

“Small town with lots of activities and specialty shops. Items you don’t usually find like custom-made Western hats and custom-made knives. And there’s plenty of live entertainment on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.”
—TIM DALE, MOUNT PLEASANT

Self-described as the “Wild Hog Capital of Texas,” the town holds its annual Feral Hog Festival the fourth weekend of October. Bring the kids along and stop by the Ben Wheeler Children’s Library, which gives tykes up to five books on each visit, which they can keep (or return).
