Winterfest

Nothing says winter more than snow, which is elusive in many parts of Texas, even in colder months. One place snow is guaranteed to stick is at Pearland’s Winterfest on Jan. 30

Each year, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department brings in thousands of pounds of snow to create the Winter Zone, where children experience the thrill of sliding down snow-tubing hills or building a snowman in the snow play area. The event offers “the experience of snow and a truly winter festival for children who may have never seen or felt snow before,” says Hannah Cecil, events specialist with the City of Pearland Parks and Recreation Department.

Temperatures for the festival generally range in the mid-50s to low 60s, creating perfect conditions to get out and enjoy all of the
activities. Apart from snow-related fun, the festival offers a petting zoo, music, a Texas snakes exhibit, rides, games and a carnival. The festival at the Recreation Center and Natatorium runs 10 a.m.–5 p.m., with a 9 a.m. early opening for children with special needs and their families. The cost is $10 for children and $4 for adults. For more information, visit the event’s website or call 281/412-8900.
