Are you a currently enrolled college undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for journalism and the Lone Star State? Texas Highways, the state’s official travel magazine, is seeking motivated individuals to join our editorial team this summer. This hands-on internship offers valuable experience in magazine journalism, allowing you to work alongside award-winning journalists as they share stories about Texas’ culture, food, history, and travel destinations.

Duties

The essential duties for this job include:

• Fact-checking articles for print
• Writing and pitching stories for texashighways.com
• Assisting the editorial team with research, copy editing, transcribing
• Assisting the digital deal with social media, analytic reports, SEO
• Working with the ancillary publications team as needed
• Attending editorial planning meetings and brainstorming for future issues of the magazine

Experience

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds—no prior experience is necessary. However, we prefer candidates who have some familiarity with:

• Microsoft Office
• Google’s G Suite
• Adobe Creative Cloud
• WordPress

Additionally, we appreciate when students gain hands-on experience through their university’s publications or student media center, as it often provides valuable skills in content creation, collaboration, and deadline management.

Education

Applicants should:

• Have 60 or more college credit hours completed
• Be working toward a degree in journalism, creative writing, or a related field.

Compensation

Intern positions are full-time and pay $19/hour.
