Texas Highways won three City and Regional Magazine Awards at Monday’s 50th annual CRMA Conference in New Orleans.

Texas Highways took home the prize for Special Issue for the second year in a row. The September 2025 edition of the magazine, “The BIG Issue,” was praised by judges for its “strong writing, original design and fold-out cover that celebrates the issue’s larger-than-life theme.”

From “The BIG Issue,” the service feature “Everything Big, Bigger, and Biggest,” took home the gold for Best Feature Package. Judges commended the story for its “fascinating stats, whimsical illustrations, and large-scale photography.”

Texas Highways’ Fuel section, led by Features Editor Chris Hughes, also won for best Food or Dining Section. Judges called out the section’s “engaging restaurant profiles and delightful surprises, such as a love letter to Big Red soda.”

The three wins for Texas Highways come out of 13 nominations for the magazine, which included one for General Excellence (circulation more than 33,000). More than 100 judges selected finalists for the CRMA awards. Judges included representatives from The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Marshall Project, ESPN, The Washington Post, and more, as well as journalism professors from the Missouri School of Journalism.
