Professional Bull Riding

Lewisville’s Professional Bull Riding benefits the veteran’s charity Boot Campaign, which unites Americans to honor and restore the lives of veterans and military families through individualized life-improving programs. Each contestant rides one bull. The top riders advance to the championship round to compete with one more bull ride. The overall event winner is the rider with the highest combined score on two bulls.

The Winnsboro Center for the Arts hosts the Winnsboro Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering, an event that celebrates the spirit of the Old West and its cherished traditions with performances by acclaimed artists and musicians. Activities include conversations about cowboy culture, concerts, and poetry sessions. There are also family fun activities including a chuckwagon with fixings such as cornbread, beans, and cobbler; an East Texas Square Dance performance; mule carriage rides; cornhole and horseshoe games; and Drover’s campsite; activities for kids such as face-painting, crafts, corn husk doll-making, Smarty Roping, and photos with Whiskey the Horse.

Stephen J. “Tio” Kleburg is the 46th recipient of the National Golden Spur Award, which recognizes an individual’s hard work and dedication to the ranching and livestock industries. Established in 1978, the award honors iconic industry leaders whose devotion to land and livestock has earned them notable respect and admiration from their peers. Along with dinner and the awards show, the event offers a chuckwagon breakfast and self-guided tours of the National Ranching Heritage Center.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships

The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association and the American Quarter Horse Association hold their world championships concurrently to determine who is the fastest and most accurate shot on horseback. Contestants compete in fast-action timed events using two .45 caliber single-action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.
