The Tarrant Regional Water District’s trout-stocking season culminates with TRWD Flyfest, a celebration of urban fishing in and along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River in Southwest Fort Worth. To create an optimal angling experience, TRWD releases 1,800 pounds of rainbow trout in addition to the nearly 3,000 Texas native fish stocked annually. Whether you are an experienced angler or have never touched a fly rod, this family-friendly day has something to hook everyone. The day includes presentations from nationally known experts, fly-tying demonstrations, and hands-on demonstrations such as beginner casting and a women’s casting class. The festival’s main event is the ORVIS Big Trout Contest, where anglers compete to catch the biggest trout or the most fish in the time allotted. Open fishing for fly and bait fishing is also welcome in designated areas. The day also includes live music, children’s activities, cooking demonstrations, food trucks, wine and craft beer, and outdoor sports shopping vendors.
