This picture taken in Houston in about 1890 shows Stude’s Bakery and Confectionery. Alphonse Stude, a prominent businessman and Houston booster, owned the shop. Stude Park, Studemont Street, and Studewood Street in the Bayou City are all named for the Stude family. Note the two children standing on the balcony. Don’t you know they were happy to be living above a bakery?
