Claud Jefferies works with a bronco at the Matador Land and Cattle Company, a ranch established in 1878 in Motley County where the Upper, Middle, and Lower Pease rivers flow. This crystal-clear image was taken in 1905 by Erwin Smith, a cowboy photographer from Honey Grove who left behind a remarkable record of the lives of working cowboys in Texas and beyond.
