Omar lives in New Braunfels with his two daughters and several cats, and writes for Texas Highways about subjects including food, fascinating people doing creative things in towns across the state, and events like New Year’s Polar Bear Dips (yes, they happen here). He’s a freelancer writer after spending more than two decades as a writer, editor and podcast at the Austin American-Statesman. He’s written for The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Wired, Rolling Stone, The Atlantic and many other publications and is known for his on-air tech dispatches for NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “Texas Standard.”
