Jan is a young wife recovering from a nervous disorder. She and her husband rent a remote cabin from an odd farmer who delights in telling gruesome ghost stories. Then the husband's strange sister arrives, and all manner of frightening events occur. What happens to fragile Jan as bodies appear and disappear give this classic thriller its tremendously frightening impact.

Anglers on Wheels II

Sept. 16-17

Woody's Last Stand, 154 W. Cotter Ave.

Anglers on Wheels is a free fishing trip for people with disabilities, their friends, and family members. Reservations must be made, as space is limited. The fishing trip takes anglers to the bays and flats around Port Aransas, and Texas Parks and Wildlife provides a free fishing license for all event participants that is passed out as you board the boat. Every disabled angler is given a fishing pole first, then all other poles are limited. The fishing boat is a converted ferry boat that is completely wheelchair accessible and covered to protect against the hot sun. Bait, tackle, and deck hands are available to help, free of charge. An ice chest with free drinks is on the boat, and you are welcome to bring your own ice chest on board.

Harvest Moon Regatta

The Harvest Moon Regatta is a sailing race that has been hosted by Lakewood Yacht Club every year since 1987. The offshore race begins in Galveston and ends with a party in Port Aransas. Whether you are new to offshore sailing, a seasoned cruiser, or a serious racer, Harvest Moon has something for you.

Wooden Boat Festival

Oct. 21-23

Roberts Point Park, 301 JC Barr Blvd.

Bring your wooden boats to display. Boats don't need to be fancy, just made of wood. They can even be displayed unfinished. Guests can attend informative programs on boat building and even build their own boats.

Bassmaster Redfish Cup

Nov. 4-6

Port Aransas Fisherman's Wharf, 900 Tarpon St.

Ten teams compete for their share of a $100,000 purse. Teams are only allowed to weigh two fish in the 20- to 28-inch slot per day rather than the standard five-fish limit for B.A.S.S. events. The contest features a mix of championship-caliber professional redfish teams along with five all-star teams featuring Bassmaster pro anglers paired with redfish pros.

Beach Lodge , 2016 On the Beach Drive

If you love all things ocean-centric, this is the race for you. The course is run entirely on sand along the Gulf of Mexico. You choose your challenge–hard-packed sand near the water or softer sand near the road. Enjoy the sun and the sound of waves as you persevere through the wind. After your race, hang on the beach, have an ice-cold drink and food from The Beach Lodge, or enjoy some shopping in town. Distances include 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, 50k, and 50 miles.
