One of Texas’ oldest cities, Huntsville is home to the headquarters of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division and Sam Houston State University. The historic downtown area has antiques and arts-and-crafts shops. The Richard Hass mural depicting Sam Houston is on the square’s northeast side.
